There are benefits on finding balance as a mum.

And it starts from that scary-beautiful-overwhelming second line in the pregnancy test.
At least, this has been for me.

Body. Thoughts. The subjects of our conversations. Our priorities. All starts to shift then.
Without even realising and without being able to control it (oh yes,… one of the few things we, human, have left unable to control!), we start to nourish a life within. We start to love and know a soul before even seeing it.
And 9 months are not enough to prepare us for the moment we meet that little face that we have imagined and dreamed over and over; 9 months are not enough to prepare us to the overwhelming emotions that arise from giving life, from holding close something that is YOU, from not knowing what to do… or thinking of not knowing… because we haven’t yet tapped into that maternal instinct that was born together with that scary-beautiful-overwhelming second line in the pregnancy test.

And then the way we used to manage our time changes. Suddenly having a shower becomes the most challenging event of the day (imagine what preparing to join a Barre&Baby class can be like… thank you mums for making the effort to be with us!).
Suddenly we find ourselves appreciating things we gave for granted … as sleeping for 5 consecutive hours without interruption. Or having 5 minutes of me-time… ah… me-time… only 5 minutes. Before it might have felt like wasted or solitude. Now…
From that scary-beautiful-overwhelming second line in the pregnancy test, our life becomes a continuous adaptation to changes, to events happening to which we need to act (or react) to. Some we can prepare for. Others not. (or even if we think we have prepared for them, still we find ourselves crying at seeing our children starting their first day at school…. ☹ )

Motherhood is an act of Balance.

Balance in a body that dramatically transforms.
Balance of a mind that shifts perspectives, priorities.
Balance of a family that accommodates new rhythm, new spaces, new voices, new emotions.
Balance of a SELF, of a Woman becoming a Mother. The art of recognizing our own existence with the importance we deserve, while raising the family we love.

And none of this is granted. None of this comes in a package together with that pregnancy test. We need to find it ourselves.
Because balance is internal. We can’t wait for someone else to do the job for us. Not THIS job.
